Marine Serre was the first French designer who won the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize in 2017. She was awarded before she’d even staged a runway show – picking up the award for her La Cambre-graduate collection ‘Radical Call for Love’. The collection combines 19th century Arab luxurious garments (caftan, karakou, sirwal, etc.) with corporate sportswear trends of the 1990s and 2000s, and projects the result in a futurist oriented fashion. The half moon crescent that appears on a number of pieces in this collection is a riff on the idea of a logo. It’s on headbands and shoes, just like a Nike swoosh would be.

In her newest designs she sticks to her hybrid, thickly-referenced approach : absorbing and combining codes from radically different worlds while still choosing to ignore the boundaries between ready-to-wear, couture, tailoring and sportswear.
