‘currently the toast of the European fashion press. Martin Margiela’s designs are clean, pure and highly original. Martin uses Levi’s work blue jeans to create a version of his trademark ankle lenghth a-line skirt’.

left photo; i-D and Levi’s commissioned five photographers, stylists and designers to customise Levi’s 401 jeans at i-D magazine No. 103 April 1992. Photo was made by Corinne Day and styled by Melanie Ward. Over the years many designers were inspired by taking the vintage denim apart at the crotch seams and create a ‘new’ skirt of the parts.

right photo; RE/DONE skirt is made of vintage jeans by using the method of taking apart the crotch seams.

re/done is an e-commerce brand, but more than that, RE/DONE wants to be a movement to keep heritage brands relevant, and a movement to create sustainable fashion. They manufacture jeans in Downtown Los Angeles using water conserving methods and no harsh chemicals. Quantities will always be limited since each pair is handpicked, hand cut, and distinctly one of a kind. The pair the customer select on their website is the pair that will fall on the buyer’s doorstep. photograph is from totoakaelo, one of the stores selling RE/DONE.
