in 1992 Jurgi Persoons graduated at the fashion department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, a decade or so after the Antwerp Six. He became an assistent of Walter van Beirendonk and three years later he launched his own label. From 1999 he presented his collections in Paris, in settings such as the Musée d’Art Moderne or the basement at the Centre Pompidou. Models stood each in their own glass cage, or laid down still on slanted mirrors, and it was the audience who walked around them, their roles reversed. His eponymous label closed shop in 2003 and he leaves the world of fashion. After years of working in the printing workshop of his partner, Persoons had returned to fashion, but in a completely new capacity: since 2011 as a teacher at the Royal Academy of Art The Hague. There he becomes the Head of Fashion and Textile in 2013.
