In 2009 and 2010, several years after Helmut Lang retired from fashion he donated a large volume of his body of work in fashion to the most important fashion, design and contemporary art collections worldwide.

After having a fire in the New York building where his studio was located he became slowly intruiged by the idea of destroying the remaining pieces by himself. He shredded all The pieces without remorse of preference and used them as raw material for his series of works. The materials are transmuted with resin and pigment into a series of pillar-like sculptures, each measuring between 10 and 12 feet high.
