céline spring summer 2013
painted-toe shoes

The painted-toe shoe is a simple nude court, with a sloping wooden heel designed by phoebe philo for céline, spring summer 2013. The front of the shoe, however, is gently sculpted and painted red to resemble glossy manicured toes.

AnOther magazine invited amsterdam based german photographer Isabelle Wenzel to showcase the Céline toe-painted shoes. Wenzel’s work is brilliantly surreal – frozen, bizarre moments of women in strange positions; frequently focusing on legs and feet. Often Wenzel works by herself: She presses the self-release and has only 10 seconds to get into position to take the shot. Taking the body as a responsive form, she uses it to capture movements or postures of anonymous posers in a figural moment.
